The Institution of Surveyors of Kenya has been involved in the drafting of the National Land Policy of Kenya and is also a stack holder in the formulation of most of the laws and policies that govern land and related services in Kenya. This means that the concerns of ISK members and their experiences in Land Issues are taken into account in the country's policy formulation.

The Institution of Surveyors of Kenya was inaugurated by 44 founding members on 17th April 1969 and subsequently registered on 12th August 1969 as a body corporate under the Societies Act. The ISK logo was registered on 20th December 1969 as a "Coat of Arms" or "Grant of Arms" under the College of Arms Act. The logo contains the motto ‘kupima na kukadiria’ (to measure and estimate).


 

The Institution has over the years maintained a cordial relationship and dialogue with the government and non-government agencies and comply with the various legislations and other related laws. It has further continued to operate in such a manner that ensures it performs its role as instrument of development of the surveying profession for the benefit of its members and members of the community.

Our Mission

To develop, provide and maintain excellent professional leadership in surveying disciplines, offer valuable services, advance members welfare and positively influence the society in land management and development.

In its endeavor to realize its vision and mission, the ISK upholds the following core values:

We believe that the way forward in developing the profession of surveying and attaining the ISK’s vision is through generation of creative and innovative ideas.

(b) Professionalism
The ISK has a pool of qualified members who carry out their responsibilities in a professional manner. We endeavour to always uphold professionalism in the practice of surveying.

(c) Ethics, Integrity and Accountability
We undertake to always act morally and ethically and to consistently demonstrate a high degree of probity in dealing with our stakeholders. ISK will always be accountable to its stakeholders for its actions, decisions, and policies including their administration, governance and implementation.

(d) Teamwork
In the discharge of ISK’s mandate, we will embrace teamwork and be committed to maintaining high standards of service delivery.

(e) Social & Environmental Concerns
We appreciate the importance of our environment and will therefore, ensure that our activities are not only compliant, but also friendly to environmental laws and community interests.

 

ISK Objectives are: -

The objects for which the Institution is established are:
(a) To secure the advancement and facilitate the acquisition of that knowledge which constitutes the profession of a surveyor.
(b) To promote the general interests of the members of the profession.
(c) To promote ethical performance of the obligations of the members of the profession for the benefit of the public.
(d) To contribute to the development of international and national policies and legal frameworks, strategies and plans in land management in a manner that facilitates sustainable development.
(e) To represent the interests of the members of the profession in relevant local, national, regional and international forums.
(f) To work with other local, national, regional and international organisations on matters of mutual interest.
(g) To establish such institutions, institutes or other bodies as may be necessary for the achievement of its objects.
(h) To engage in the provision of such services as may be necessary for the benefit of the members or the sustainability of the Institution.
(i) To conduct such examinations, tests or other assessments as may be necessary to determine an applicant’s eligibility for membership
